Because I am not

Because I am not

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

I hope you are proud of yourself.

I really do.

Because I am not proud of myself..

In an instant

In a second

in a shallow breath

I am your toy, your baby your secret

Which I told myself never to be again.

I hope you are happy with yourself

I really do

Because I am not.

From break of day

First light

dew still covering the lawn

I am thinking of you.
