Messed up divinely

Messed up divinely

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt
"

Once again, you messed me up.

"

Here I stand in front of you today

A woman who has let herself down.

I have messed up divinely and now

I have my eyes focused on my feet.

His name was so and so and I loved him

The ideal man for what I thought was good

Had turned out to be anything but good for me.

The wooing and courting were his forte

And his words could make an angel sin.

All these facts could paint me a victim

If this had been his first offence

.

All this discipline in this body

Could not keep me from holding out my wrists to bind.

Not that I had fought very hard.

Either way it does not matter in the end.

All the explanations I could give you,

All the words I could use against my wrongs

Will not erase the fact that I am still here.

In front of you today as a woman who has let herself down.
