I was a fool

I was a fool

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

I was a fool

Took more out of promises than meant

Held paupers at princely esteem

Just to be burned in the end

Proven incorrect and naïve

Shown that time doesn’t erase scars

No matter how much they get camouflaged by sunlight

The marks are still there.
