Alarm clock

Alarm clock

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

If the movements of my hand
could keep you here with me
I would hold them high above my head
and wave to God, if I thought it would help.

If I thought it would make a difference
I would plead insanity in front of a judge
during the trial of your devotion
and take my sentence in stride, if I thought it would matter

If I could hold you forever
holding you prisoner in my arms
I would wrap them around you and handcuff my wrists
if I knew that you wanted me to
You just have to tell me to never let go.

There isn't much holding my intentions hostage
and there is nothing that God can concieve that I wouldn't do
to keep you here with me for another day
But we both know there is nothing to be done,
you are leaving when I wake.

The morning is coming baby
the eleventh hour approaches and my alarm nears
Tell me to sleep forever so we can live happily ever after
I would give up my life if you ask me to
so I could see you just one more day.

You need to throw that alarm clock out the window! I really enjoyed reading this poem; it expressed some very vivid emotions. Quite well written.
