Running girl

Running girl

A Poem by Sarah McKeever Hitt

I am the girl
running after people
that don't want to be caught
ending up tired and ashamed.
Somewhere is a man
tying up his laces tight
who won't let a little spot of rain
deter him from finishing the race.
Happy to run as long as it takes
if it means he gets to take me home as his prize
we will start on our life together
perfectly flawed
like the great romances of our grandparents.
Until I find him, there is you.
And I will keep running
Your face is in the distance
my attention is growing faint
I regret the lengths I take
but until the time comes
for my happily ever after
There is you
And that is enough for now.
