My Sergeant

My Sergeant

A Poem by Sarah Hampton
"

An excerpt from the first, raw, letter I wrote to my best friend/fiance/soldier after... Written in June 2006

"

There aren't enough words to fill this void in my chest

Of a day in infamy I'll never forget

Lost words unsaid I'll always regret

If only I could see your face

One.  More.  Time.

I would leave this world behind

No need for words

No need for rhyme

Since you've been gone

I pretend to be strong

And carry on

They dare say 'carry on'

But I don't know how to survive you

Without you

Without the pieces you took

With just a peace of you

For while you were deployed

I prayed for you

Every.  Single.  Day.

I still can't forgive the Lord I love

For taking you away

So heartbreakingly beautiful my lil' friend!Your words are graceful and elegant and full of love and pain but yet your strength shines through within your hearts words. May your love's whisper be heard as it is carried gently on a gentle breeze through the heavens.

Thank you.
So mote it be.
This is soul crushing.. Every sentence broke my heart but the pieces can never be compared to what you must have/are living through. Strength comes in mysterious ways, your poem is strength personified for despite the hurt I feel your voice still finds a way to whisper to him, "I'm going to be okay."
