Pregnant Pause

Pregnant Pause

A Poem by Sarah Courtney-Dean

There is a silence over everything today

As if the earth is pregnant.

Broken by the buzz of bees

Hovering from flower to flower

Feverishly trying to outrun

The coming storm.

The air is heavy with a fecund smell

And dripping moisture

Like Angels weeping tears of joy for creation.

Soon though the storm will break

And the tears become a flood on

And the silence broken

By thunderbolts from the Gods.
