Darkened Love

Darkened Love

A Poem by Sarah Coll

The sun couldn’t have shone

Much brighter
Than it did on that day
His eyes met her.

Eros had been sent to slight her
But he’s a lover, not a fighter.
He was to bid her love to
The loveless man.

Mortal beauty so divine,
So rare, it dazzled him
And so he bound her to himself.

It was not long before she
Learned her lover was no mortal,
So came the day he left her.

She wondered the world with
Only the vain hope he’d return
To love her once again.

Despair and anguish approached,
She admired the disposal of life.

Then she thought she’d seen the light
But it only brought her strife.
