Let's Just Keep Singing

All the conflict in the world... We only seem to make a song, make a speech, say some words, and call it "fixed"

There's something about us humans,
watching the world crumble under our feet,
we stand on it like a pedestal or stage,
and we sing our glories and our defeats

We keep singing our "sympathetic" songs,
But we won't shut up long enough to look,
we keep taking much too long,
to see our magic is already took,

Lets sing to the animals dying of pollution,
let's sing to the mothers of sons at war
let's sing to the dying victims of terrorism,
let's sing and hope it heals all the scars,

We keep hiding behind our microphones,
singing our opinions but still putting on a show,
shining the spotlight on us not them,
let's ditch the stage so we can start to slow,

"Hey, another kid has been shot at school,
so let's make a speech and call it fine,
maybe I'll gain my moment of fame,
collecting my yes-men dead followers divine",

The crowd keeps shouting yes!
But have I seen a single one step forward?
Cheering like at a rock concert,
but no one risks going torwards,

Let's keep singing to our youth,
and teach them how to rock the mike,
telling the world we're gonna help,
but singing our single chorus, "SIKE"

There's been another man killed for his belief,
Let's just keep singing to help spread "relief"

Let's just keep singing.

I don't know about you all; but I'm SICK of people taking these problems as an excuse to gain their five minutes of fame. They make a stupid speech.

Okay...obviously you are a fifty five year old selling herself on this site as a teenager cause OMG! The depth is astounding and yes but no..not all of us are just talking ...some of us are starting to rise and have been doing that for many years..however...I think it think it is incredible that you are already asking the hard questions and raising some very valuable points. You are right dear Sarah. I write daily reminders. Wars are going on, hateful countries are attacking their neighbors without no concern. USA sending soldiers to learn to kill and fight. A soldier killed 12 people. We need to learn why and fix. Song and excuses mean little. Maybe USA started to improve. New leaders. I hope they walk the walk. I know they can talk the talk. Time for us to do something. Maybe we need to pay attention. Lead with concern, kindness and listen. If we accept chaos and hate. We are a part of it. Powerful and worthwhile words shared.

Well even here you will find few poets who write about genocide or starvation to gain something. I find this,quiet cheap and shallow. I find more interesting to write about myself in semi bio way. I am quiet egoistic self absorb fellow. Maybe is,time to stop be,singing and be brutal honest.

How right you are, a song for every occasion. Nothing wrong with singing, it can really stir up the emotions, but it is action which is needed, action to put right some of the problems. Action not words comes to mind here Sarah. Your lines well written, with a message that many a politician needs to comprehend.
