Cemetery

Cemetery

A Poem by LazerRays

I lay here in the Cemetery
With the stars above the night
The stones on every side of me
Casting shadows from the light

Surrounded by a Gothic fence
Of black iron towering so
Keeping the dead inside
-And keeping me all alone

My hand clutching my stomach
Of a bloody bullet wound
Or so my crazy mind would picture
In a state of vulnerable hues

Lying in this same spot now
Pondering the universe in my head
And thinking psychotically
About me hanging with the dead

For soon I'll be absorbed
Into the ground like the rest
With an epitaph so bitter-sweet
And state of mind so blessed

When I was little and we passed cemeteries in the car or on a walk (I lived in a really small town) I would smile and wave at "all the dead people there" as my mom recounted. I think that it's a place to find peace, eternal rest, and though I want to be cremated I think it would be nice to have a headstone with all those dead people I tried to be friendly too. Sometimes the best comfort is found in places where no one judges, and everyone listens.

I feel the same way. I used to have friends before I moved and now I realized, almost all of them are lost. IT leaves me feeling, depressed. I love the representation and how well the poem fits together.

Hahahahah! Thanks! Love ya too! It's great to be weird at times :P
Your rhyming is spot on. Be careful of meteorites though. They are everywhere! We are under a secret invasion by inhabitants of a rodent solar system. A deadly interplanetary conspiracy to take ove and populate our planet with rats. That’s why I love this read. It makes me think of all kind of places I would like to bury their carcasses after chewing the marrow out of their bones! 😾

Powerful and honest words shared dear Sarah. I believe we will have few true friends. Each of us different. New world is more colder. Better days when we talked. You took the reader on a journey to final place and understanding. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

I enjoyed this one and you are welcome Sarah.
admittedly, cemeteries have always fascinated me. i like to read the stones and imagine the person standing before me - wondering what kind of person they were and what kind of life they had. your words are stark and real and reflect a deep soul not afraid to look beyond this life and what it has to offer or not offer. i really like this piece. love the poe-like imagery. very powerful, spiritual and philosophical despite being morbid. left a strong impression upon me. i sometimes wrestle with depression and have been told that i may be bipolar so i can well relate. ... :)

I like cemeteries too. But not for the same reasons. I imagine the stories of the people and reflect on those taken too soon. Anyway, quite a sad read from your angle.

Gee
Man, you must have been a strange kid. We were all terrified of graveyards, especially when the light was fading, but you, not a bit of it, you're in there making friends with the corpses.
I've never read Poe, but having enjoyed this I might just have to track his work down and have a butchers :))

Thank you so much for that review. Yeah, I did have a strange childhood haha.
oh my...we deal out so much pain with no thought for it ... those young years when we are developing who we are ... doesn't seem fair at all that "peers" have such a say in things :( your poem is too real ... i believe your "voice" completely .. the graveyard setting is well done says i! (i love to visit old cemeteries) tho it is kind of cliche', especially near Halloween, the presentation of it woven into the emotions suffered makes it take on a whole other aspect ..as your speakers friend almost ... wonderful, true to the bone, vulnerable poetry ... i hope you are doing great my friend!
