Now I lay me down to sleep

Now I lay me down to sleep

A Poem by Sarah W. French
"

Words on an age old prayer that I never understood

"
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take
Mother tough child she tough hers
The words so simple
The words so cruel
When I was young they
meant not a thing
And now I see the truth
That the world is dark
my family is dark
and even god himself can be dark
Why must I learn the words of pain,
death, and sadness
all at a time of peaceful sleep
Let my world stay innocent
You have no right to tell
If I die before the morning come
Maybe I want to think
of this some other day
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take
