You

You

A Poem by Sarah W. French

To take and to take
That is your job
You have my life
And you want my soul
To take and to take
My memories
My thoughts
All are lost from my head
To take and to take
My friends
My family
All away
To take and to take
A future
A creation
A book
A companion
To take, trap, leave
That is your calling
To steal, kill, block
That is what you are known for
You are known as many things
Death, darkness, the written word
Everything and everyone is in your grasp
We are all under your power
But so few know the truth
of you
And the true things you are after
I bow down to you
for you have me caught in a world
Of my own creation
And of my own demise
