Ocean Song

Ocean Song

A Poem by ~Artemis~
"

Its based off a scene in one of my books inspired by the Islander, by Nightwish.

"
The waves crash
Their rhythm constant, a steady beat
Spilling out on the shore
A tremor of fury
 Beneath each thundering, rushing crest.

Yet there's calmness in the steadiness
The endlessly repeating pattern
Unbroken, unchanged, dependable
The undying song of the water.

And the wind
tangible freedom
Sings of it's untamable, unconquerable spirit.
Unpredictable, chaotic, aimless
Yet filled with passion, purpose
Harmonious with the ocean's song.

The seagulls too, and their voices
The shrill, stark, coos
Call to the waves
And the waves roar back.

A small girl disturbs the scene
Yet so familiar is this setting to her
And her to the setting
That she is as much a part of it
As the wind, the seagulls, and the waves

Water gently strokes her feet
Wind catches her hair
She breathes the salt air, the sunlight
And absorbs the generous warmth offering
Of the sand.

The seashore is her home
The wind her whispering friend
The seagulls, her protectors
And the ocean- her life.

She is drawn to it
The power within the waves
The violent passion
The calming stillness
The beautiful contradiction of voices
Creating the song of the sea
Her song.

Her thoughts become the wind
Her breath becomes the wave's steady pattern
Her voice the seagulls' call
Her soul, the wandering wind
She closes her eyes
And though she scarcely leaves her sandy serenity
Her spirit waves goodbye to its flesh sanctuary
And is lost within in the waves
Lost at sea.

You paint the scene well with your lovely words. I taste the sea salted air, feel the soft wind. You put us beside the small girl and let us see her become one with the ocean. I truly felt emersed into this poem, wonderful writing.

I love how you describe the sea and all her secrets. It seems almost magical. Great piece, I really enjoyed reading this :)

Great job on this one, it really carries a peaceful and surreal image. And with the potentially dark ending, I enjoyed it all the more. Your metaphors and flow are something which anyone who has spent a substantial amount of time on the ocean would feel.

So much emphasis!
So much detail!
Maybe I'm biased because I'm partial to the sea, but
Ahhhhhhhhhh, this is absolutely fantastic!

That was really beautiful. I could easily imagine everything, and honestly hear the ocean in my head. Absolutely lovely.

This is beyond beautiful. Amazing imagery. It reminds me of a friend who grew up in Florida; the beach is a part of her
