Salt Water Rubies

Salt Water Rubies

A Poem by Sara
"

???

"

Salt water streams and the ruby red springs

Are the only reminders of where we have been.

Beating the drum, let the memory thicken.

Running with slippery feet, your heart quickens.

Lipstick smeared on your innocence,

Liberation is more than a gift.

We should be more generous

With the rubies and diamonds,

Salt water rivers, and misty glass dreams.

Loosen these clenched purse strings!

The sandpaper memory attempts to scream,

In the hope of realization and release.

It reaches the shores where none other has been.

Chanting and beating the drum,

Liberation has forced us to shun

Every memory of lost innocence;

Of lipstick and rubies and salt water streams.

Nicely done. Sad with the loss of youth. Age gets you every time. Good write.

Ah! I love this! You have such a gift with words, Sara. And I love that you never say "blood, sweat, and tears", but you convey it metaphorically through this. It's amazing.
