Follow the Leader

Follow the Leader

A Poem by Sara
"

teach and be taught

"

Fall close behind me.

Wait until tomorrow.

Don’t let them see you follow

Lest you put us both in jeopardy.

This secret kinship

Is the one chance you’ll get

To be free from freedom

And to regret your regrets.

Listening isn’t worth what you pay

And tire isn’t worth the sleep you spend

In one day.

Just fall back to me

And I’ll coach you in sounds

That never before could astound.

The waves of the sea can’t compare

To the love I will teach you.

Come away and we’ll run

From the watchful eye

Of those who jeer at believers.

This secret society

Is one that won’t leave you

Until you abandon

The silence that frees you.

Just wait until midnight

To make your escape.

I will wait by the gate

And be ready to lead you.

We’ll run from this place

To a garden of peace

And I’ll rock you in silence

Till you forget all your needs.

The memory of chains

At your wrists and your feet

Is one that will bind

Your mind into retreat.

Come away from those cages

That hold you behind.

You must follow the leader

Until you unwind

From the shell that contains

All the puzzles inside.

Come away from this place

See the love that’s inside

I will show you true heaven.

We will rule as the one

That others dare not follow

But refuse to run from.

And the silence that frees you

Will free others too.

But when fame and fortune

Pour into your life

And the lessons I’ve taught you

Have rid you of grief,

Remember your tutor.

He expects pay from you.

You can’t follow the leader

Without paying your dues.

Run in place for awhile

Until I can catch up.

You have taken the lead

And I cannot run

Quite as fast as I used to.

You’ve run me so dry

I have no more to give you.

To old men be kind.

Treat them well,

Those who fathered you.

Silence to those

Who abandon their teachers

And love only foes.

Competition is not

What they all say it is

Come away from that place

And come back to your crib.

I will teach you once more

How to live and to give

But the gate quickly closes

Before you return.

There is no room in heaven

For those who don’t mourn.

There is no room for freedom

In hearts that will burn.

For the leader that led them

To paradise has earned

Pay in full, student dear.

And to you who can’t learn

Don’t accept that which you

Cannot pay for in full.

Our society welcomes

Only the loyal.

I like it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Doesn't matter if you don't always understand the stuff you write, sometimes I think that's the point of writing stuff down, to help you come to understand it.

Contrary to what you may think, I find this a brilliant piece. Admittedly, the technique is a little rushed, but the message is clear. And isn't that what writing is all about, communicating your thoughts in a way that touches your readers?

That is what you have done, Sara. A strong piece with some lines that I particularly doubled back savouring:

'To be free from freedom
And to regret your regrets.'

'There is no room in heaven
For those who don't mourn.
There is no room for freedom
In hearts that will burn.'

Irony was never phrased so well.

Loves,
Raven
