A Kiss Instead

A Kiss Instead

A Poem by Sunflower/Sara Kendrick
"

After reading Edna St. Vincent Millay...Thoughts came to me on something from my life that I could write about...

"

Oh! Oh! I will be sorry for that poem!

Give back my pad and take my kiss instead

Was it my lover or enemy

Who said that writing is for smart people bred

Here I'll show you my latest costly buy

And you may watch me show how  well it flies

Oh, I shall love you still and all of that.

I shall be sweet, meek, mild, soft, even sly.

You will not "catch" me writing any more:

I shall be perfect wife to patten by;

And some day soon you shall call for me__come

You shall look and seek at the empty bench(tomb)

Run to the forest path enter in;  run fast

But I shall be gone raptured by__the poem

The poem that (I) was not allowed (to write) in the past

This is beautiful, yet still has a mysterious tone to it. The meaning behind the words is hard to decipher, yet it still emits a sort of poetic feeling. Then again, it IS a poem. I'd say it's pretty good.

Edna's are great verses to be inspired by. You do well here in evoking her sense of urgency and honesty while giving the piece your own unique twist. I especially like the parenthetical thoughts that appear throughout.
