The Homeplace

The Homeplace

A Poem by Sunflower/Sara Kendrick
"

Couplet

"

Here further down the hillside slope

Down close to the creek with hope

My husband bought a house, land

Fenced in and made many plans

Subdued the land to cow pasture

And planted a garden, fruit trees sure

Fathered another child to call him sir

The creek seemed to like the stir

Enjoyed the children for a while___

Loved them so that it made her smile

Today she loves grandchildren the same

No girls there are in frills__tame

The creek keeps on flowing to the sea

The land is mostly stripped of trees

There is a lot of wistfulness here and I see how you drew from Frost quite well. Have you read his poems "After Apple Picking" and "The Silken Tent?" Two of my favorites -- you emulate his rhyme scheme effectively.

Sun flower the end of this "story" left me with mixed feelings. The aspect of continuity gave strength, but the sadnes came in "what was... is no more" I picked up this image strongly at the end...another sign of hope lies within the "presence of the grandchildren" they too will soon be grand parents..and so the cylce continues...is there another reality that is real apart from "continuity?" Thank you Sunflower for expertly bringing this reality of family life to the fore. Wel written!

I like this story. Home and family sound like good place to be. The description was very good. With photo you took me with you. A outstanding poem. Thank you.
