Sonnet 1

Sonnet 1

A Poem by Mark Anthony Santa Cruz

When the echo of her voice lingers through the cardboard walls,
She leaves you with a smile that prances in the hall.

She hooks her words on your heart,
And once again you feel immortal like a god.

No man can destroy the admiration you have
That’s as great as the oceans and the sand;

Infinite and wide lies the ocean on the earth
It sounds always comforting it never fades.

Small and irritable lays the sand,
Always hard to rid of but beautiful from afar.
It’s warm on the hot day that brings
Comfort to the skin and on the cold days
Leaves you numb on the toes as your heart.
It’s a cradle in the arms and the touch you always yearn,

That lies in your memories as obscure as the dark,
But in the night is the star that twinkles in your eyes.
That is her that is her who purges my eyes,
Divine they are; rare to find like an angel in the sky.

This piece is so sweet. I love the similes and metaphors. The imagery is outstanding. As I read, I felt the air of the beach. It's so interesting to read work from a male's heart. Excellent!
