Songs of the Ocean

Songs of the Ocean

A Poem by Mark Anthony Santa Cruz

I once lay in a pond,

With only sound of the ocean’s songs,

The way it pranced made me fond,

Of its beauties and simplicities, of which I longed!

It plashed, it splashed; oh did it make me laugh,

Its songs quivered a stitch into my heart,

I was pushed into a raft—lost at sea

With the world of my own apart.
