Heartless

You choose to come and go as you please

While I always wait for you so restlessly 

I feel like a fool to be wasting my time

Trying so hard for someone that was never mine.

I changed myself in so many ways

I tried to show you, but you were long gone

And I was sitting alone just counting the days

It had been a while since we last spoke

Maybe just one more time if you called me again

You’d see the difference of what I am now and who I was back then.

I had no intention of trying to be someone I’m not

But somehow you inadvertently showed me all the flaws I had

And I could see from your viewpoint there were a lot.

But your actions don’t hurt me the way they used to anymore

There was a time I would’ve been expecting you to walk through that door

Now if you don’t come I won’t be surprised

Now if you don’t call I won’t bother to check if you’re okay

I’m not becoming insensitive; it just hurts less that way.

Getting over you was a struggle, one of the hardest things I’ve had to do

That’s why I refuse to repeat my mistake again

I’d rather be heartless than to choose to fall for you.

Sanpreet, Every person has value. If one is entrapped in a relationship in which only their shortcomings are pointed out then the person one is involved with is making himself/herself feel superior because that is their need. A relationship should involve both parties rejoicing in all the good that the other brings to the table and realize any shortcomings are probably equaled by their own. That is how love works when it's right. This is a very feeling piece and I am honored to accept your friend request. take care...dan

It is easy to allow oneself to become heartless after having the heart broken... it's easy to think that avoiding any love will prevent the pain suffered at the hand of another... you say it so well...
