Smile?A Poem by Sanjeeta Sharma Pokharel "Hridayaninadini"With the clattering wheels- ‘I’ heard a wagon- Passing by- I rushed to the window- [Ragged!] To see The mounting sun- And As usual- To see ‘him’!
‘He’ carried the oodles Of the ‘stones’ to the cliff- And Sighed! (Wiped off his sweats!)
His sweats as weary as him Stumbled down And vanished in the space!
Like every day… One thing was common in him He wore- The same “smile”- As he had in the bygone yesterdays-
I looked at- His “smile”- that remained alike- Despite of the hurdles- He had- Every day !
His “smile” was concealing! The flux of pains & grieves Still he managed to “smile”…
After all, I never judged him By his “smile”!
For me- Smile is a hide-out! For billionths of melancholy truths!
I never judged him By The zenith, he stands today, the sweats, he lost and the pains, he masked!
I judged him By “The Dust”- he roused from, To the paramount!
Should I “smile”- To veil-the fact that- I am not smiling?
Vacant-went my lips!
So, All I did-then- Was- I bowed I “smiled” -For him And went my way…
