The Occupied Emptiness

The Occupied Emptiness

A Poem by Sanjeeta Sharma Pokharel "Hridayaninadini"

Through this old frayed casement …

The gust of air moves in

Through the vacant room-in the barren mind

Rustles the emptiness- wobbles stillness behind

Without filling the blank, gently, it moves out

I park myself, still, in this cozy chair- I watch

The rushing out of that breeze into that blank space

I speculate-‘Contentment is to them who possess less’

Rest of them, are left empty- Happiness thus snatched

I moved out of this “mansion”- leaving behind the emptiness

Smiling, were they…but still the smile so barren

Tears-that toppled down from their empty eyes- so deserted

Amongst this huge crowd of folks- I am still…

Encircled by the Illusion and befriended by this emptiness

The occupied crowd hovers around

Deep in me, there’s emptiness

Empty thoughts and empty togetherness

Empty the wholesome sky, an empty me and this empty ground

ahh so philosophically captivating! It is true that loneliness is embraceable and there is solace to be found in the peacefulness of being separate and as yet, un-entwined. Are not those covetous ones who pursue materiality traveling further and further down the road of discontentedness?

the beauty of this write is in its stimulation of intelligent questioning reasoning!

I like the sentiment behind the poem, and i hate feeling all alone in a crowd. You captured the emotion perfectly in this poem and the picture only adds to the effect of the piece. Very well penned, and extremely thought provoking

Oh I love the painting at first I only saw the one figure and then realised he only stood out in the crowd, the poem is so deep, the whole alone in a crowd feeling is one I know too well, sometimes personal space alienates us, be careful where the line is drawn my friend. We all need time alone only not too long for our own company is the only company we can never leave. Beautifully penned, keep em' coming
