Space!

Space!

A Poem by Sanjeeta Sharma Pokharel "Hridayaninadini"

I,

At the center

Enclosed in a circle of

Thousand- heads,

To whom I explained-

What emptiness feels like?

Everybody seemed

Less bothered…

As their eyes,

As I observed,

Were rolling over…

But,

Tearing up the crowds-

Came in a valiant man

Unlike others,

Curiosity twinkled

In his eyes,

He requested me to define

The blank-

The space-

The emptiness…

I first grinned

At him

Then,

Took a brush

And a canvas

Drew the line

A portrait of man-

 With no nose,

 To breathe in

 With no lips,

 To smile at

 With no eyes,

To wander in

‘Perfect’,

 I thought

I was delighted-

For me

That was emptiness!

And I turned around-

 To show…

 To show to that gentleman

What space meant to me-

When you are

Just an outline

With a blank-space

Within yourself!

And when I turned around

[Jaw-dropped!]

I saw no valiant man!

He was nowhere!

He was no-one!

And I came to know

He himself was

A space-

An empty thought!

When I stood blank,
In crowds...
And tried explaining them...
And here popped in
This thought.....

Sweet write, this one got me thinking, what is emptiness indeed? finding its meaning is like holding sand in your fist, the more you try to hold on to it the faster it slips away. I like the ending to this poem, feels like you were about to find something but couldn't, it's sad but somehow it works well with this poem...great write!!

Our activities are reliant on our emotions to touch and bring an understanding of the contact we make.We bring the meaning to the things we engage.

Something deeply sad about this... the hopes and expectations dahsed and the poet left empty... Our relationships can be so disappointing... but we can share in other ways and reach out to those who fulfill our spiritual needs.

An insightful if painful write

Is it possible that emptiness, space, can also be a good thing? He, the Space, the empty thought, was "valiant" had twinkles in his eyes, might it be that the empty thought is a type of precursor to major creativity? These thoughts ran through my sometimes empty head as I read your very well written poem. Good write.
