Oh Sweet MaidenA Poem by PoeticVandalIn a dark and lonely night, On a dank and dirty floor, A fair maiden as pale as light, In a placid slumber she resides, Neither the twigs that grace her hair, Nor the soil that stain her amber, Hinders the magnificence her beauty shines. And I being forever a gentleman, Call her out to improve her den. But her eyes flutter not, Nor does her calm face show crease. I wander closer to try once more, But in a trance I cannot move. For I'm captivated by the fair maiden, And the sweet slumber where she now resides. I feel no urge to quicken her awakening, But soon I break free of these restraints, And attempt to shake her from slumber, But my hands soon realise, She is but as cold as ice, And as I lift her hand to check a pulse, I find none, nor the sound of breath. It is then with a tingling chill I realise, That I cannot wake her, From the sweet slumber where she now resides......
