The Decision

The Decision

A Chapter by Jennifer
"

Alex makes a decision, will he end up with Anthony? or will Chance intervien

"

Anthony doesn’t look up as the door opens; instead he continues to think about Alex. Whom he has not seen in four months; he is beginning to think he will never see him again.

He hears Alex’s voice but thinks he is imagining it. It is not until he hears his name being said not a foot from his seat does he finally look up from the table. Looking he sees Alex standing in front of him. He stands, kissing Alex before he has the chance to say a word.

Sitting Alex tries to explain why he left after the incident with Chance, and why he left Chance in the first place. Not sure where to start he starts at the beginning.

“Chance and I became friends in sixth grade; he was the only person who stood up for me when Luke Smith would make fun of me for having long black hair. He would say things like “What are you? An emo-goth girl?” he constantly picked on me; but Chance would always stand up for me. One day Chance wasn’t there during recess, and the teachers were too busy socializing to notice the big circle forming. Luke had brought a pair of scissors outside and had his “friends” form a circle around him and I; some of them held me down as he cut my hair. When Chance found out, he was furious; he ended up beating the s**t out of Luke and getting suspended.”

“I moved away for a few years after that, mainly because my parents got divorced, but I talked my mom into moving back for high school. On my first day back in town Chance came over and when I answered the door he grabbed me in a hug and kissed me. I’d come out of the closet to my parents and somehow he’d found out. He asked me out that day.”

“We both came out to the school that year and would walk down the halls holding hands. In high school things were different, you were more accepted. Things were great; we were happy and in love; we had an apartment together. But that all changed; the end of junior year Chance’s dad died from lung cancer. He was devastated; started drinking. When he drank he got violent, he’d come home and if I said something he didn’t like he’d smack me around. I had a number of black eyes. It got to the point that I moved out, got my own apartment and started thinking about going to college.”

“I still loved him and wanted to be with him, so one day I told him that if he wanted us to stay together he had to get his act together and go to rehab; which he did. By the time he got out it was time for senior prom, we went together, then we left for college. Things went alright for a while but then I started hearing stories about him with other guys. I didn’t want to believe it; and I didn’t; until I walked in on him. I broke up with him right-then-and-there.”

"He came to me a few days later and begged me to take him back; promised he’d never do it again. I was stupid and agreed to it. Once again things went okay for a while; then the stories started. This time I didn’t need to catch him in the act; the signs were already there. So I told him we were over, this time for good.”

“The day he showed up here was the first time I’d seen him since the break up. I don’t love him anymore, but seeing him that day brought back some painful memories; that’s why I left right after he did.”

Finished with his story Alex gets up and starts to leave, having only planned to explain the situation between himself and Chance.

Anthony knew he was falling for Alex and didn’t want him to disappear out of his life. Not hesitating he gets up and grabs his hand; turning Alex to face him, he wraps an arm around his waist, then kissing him long and hard he says, “Please don’t disappear again.”

“But…”starts Alex but Anthony cuts him off.

            “Please…”

            “Alright, I won’t”

“Good, now do you want to go to my place?” asks Anthony.

Smiling Alex replies, “I’d love too.”

As they walk out of Starbucks, hand-in-hand, Alex thinks to himself, this is the start of the rest of my life.

um in the ICU, the paitent is not in an actual room (under normal circumstances), they are in a room there is no door, there is a curtain and they are generally within sight of the nurses station, or not far from it.
GRRRR I thought of something else, he would not have been discharged right away, he would have been kept in icu for a few hours after he woke up, then he would have been admitted into a private room for 24 hour observation.
They would have for one, had to keep him on his IV's, would have had to check his blood sugar every 4 hrs since while under sedation, had nutrion via iv.

I would to make two minor points,,, he would not have been put into the icu right after surgery, when a paitent is taken out of surgery, they are put into recovery, to be monitored until the affects of the anestesia begin to wear off and they start to gain conciousness. Because recovery is part of the OR, therefore needs to remain a steril, family members are usually not allowed inside, although exceptions are made to the rule. That is usually in exstenuating circumstances, only by a parent(s) and/or spouse or other intermediate family.

A little over a year ago, I was sedated for four days bc basically an absess went on a rampage in my mouth and the antibiotics that I was given seemed to make it worst, I was kept under sedation for four days in the icu following emergency surgery so I wouldn't fight the venalator that they kept inserted bc the absess had gotten so bad that the infection was nearly to the point of cutting off my windpipe, so it was a precaution. So this comes from personal experience

*On that note, the dr would not have told him deffinately that he would wake up, as with people who go into natural comas there is no way of estimating when the paitent will come out of the coma or, even if they will at all. Here is a link that I found online. The source seemed credible to me but I admit I did not have to double and triple check as I do in my own research.

Good story, can't wait to read more as you publish it. Um there a couple of facts that were not quite right. I read it yesterday but didn't a chance to go out and look some of it up before I started correcting you.
These all have to deal with the hospital scene after the stabbing.
*I think you're thinking of the paitent being sedated, not being put into a m.i.c. The M.i.c. is performed in extreem cases of brain trauma and essentially you areshutting down brain activity so it can begin to heal.
