Legacy.

Legacy.

A Poem by E. Greene

Speaking with my head drawn back, speaking as recourse. What more have I to say? My mouth sours, I can no longer speak. Head wrapped in smoke as I stumble away into the languid light of the day. Spared from the chastising gaze of those around me.

Cry no more, lament no more. I can smile at the warmth of absence. Tempted no more by the cold touch I once loved.

Bury my body in the hills, bury it where none walk. A time for sleep is deserved by all. I cannot sleep until my eyes are willing to close themselves from the world. Insomnia is a loathed friend.

My father was an admirable man, he saw the evil in every human. A legacy abandoned. I am the prodigal child. Let me hold onto your virtues. They are safe with me.

We can only bear what our heart allows. Mine is a burden unto itself.
