The Doll’s Grand Ball

Tonight was the night of the grand ball and all the doll’s friends were going.

They called and they called but they didn’t dare call out to the doll in public because it was forbidden.

The doll was not to have allies.

Therefore when the doll froth came to the residence of the grand ball she had no invitation.

When the doorman said she could not enter she questioned why when she was an honored guest.

He simply answered she was not to pass if he did not see an invitation.

The doll upon hearing this nodded her head and stood back so that others behind her would pass.

In the second hour of the ball( which would last till noon of the next day as it is doubtful that the many rooms of the residence would not be needed through out the night) strode up a friend of the doll’s to the doorman.

Taller than most, the boney spinster was known for her keen eye and demanding wit.

She was known as the Widow even as she had never married for her rumored lover (a widower with children) had died and without being asked she had immediately adopted the aforementioned widower’s children.

Seeing the still doll beside the doorman she bustle up to him and glared into his eyes.

Calmly stepping back she shook her head at him silently and silently still she walked away.

The doorman, shaken by the Lady’s odd and intrusive behavior toward one such as him, turned to his side to ask the doll if she knew what had caused the change only to find air.

There was no one there.
