The Man I LovedA Poem by poetforlifeJust letting go of a dream of someone who turned out to be a nightmare
I saw your face when we were young And somehow knew you were the one. We grew up from just simple kids To young loves and our first kiss. You were the only man for me But I couldn’t make my mama see And so we went out separate ways I thought about you every day. The years passed by, I had two sons Made memories and had lots of fun Their dad was just a crutch for me Because with you, I could not be Our marriage didn’t work at all I made the break and took the fall. I met someone else, who filled the gap A man who always made me laugh Mistakes were made while havin fun But I knew that he was not the one. A daughter soon was on her way When I heard your voice on the phone that day. You said I’ve loved you all my live It’s time for you to be my wife I gave my heart that you always had You walked away, made me so sad I raised my daughter on my own Still knowing you were the only one Five more years passed in a flash And here you came, crawling back You sat and cried and promised me Thing that you could never keep You broke my heart just one last time Guess you were never meant to be mine The pain you caused, he’d never do You’re not the man I’ve loved, you’re just you. The man I loved would never lie He’d lay down for this girl and die You’re not that man anymore That makes it easier to slam that door The man I loved is dead and gone The love we had was just all wrong. I’m moving on, thank God above No longer bound by the man I loved. © 2009 poetforlifeFeatured Review
