More Than ThisA Poem by poetforlifeJust my take on things I see and experience in life and my eternal optimism shining through!
Stollin’ down the street, watchin’ people passin’ by Looking in their faces, seeing pain in their eyes I wonder to myself is that the story of their bliss? I want to stop and tell them, don’t give up, there’s more than this.
Hungry little boy with the biggest of brown eyes Mom can’t pay the rent and she has to peddle lies Just to get some change to buy what her babies need Filled with such despair she wonders, is there more than this?
A daddy holds his daughter knowing he must let her go She’s going to live with mama and he already knows He won’t always get to see her and his eyes begin to mist Heart’s breaking into pieces, she deserves more than this.
Standing on the corner, holding a sign for change He never thought he’d be here, life turned on him, such pain He wants to crawl into a hole, let the hands of fate tick But he never quits believing that there’s more to life than this.
Came home from work early cause the boss said she could go But what would soon await her, she had no way to know She found him there with her best friend, punched him with her fist She slid down to the floor crying, “I want more than this.”
Girls night out, we’re dancing and it’s still the some old lines Don’t these jerks hear themselves, they all sound just alike “Baby let me have you, I can be all that you wish” Driving myself home alone, I wonder, is there more than this?
The secret to it all is that we strive for something more Not knowing where it’ll take us, not always being sure But knowing that we’re stronger than what it is, or who we’re with We’re all on the same journey and life is so much more than this.
