Message In A Bottle

Message In A Bottle

A Poem by poetforlife
"

A challenge from Sandy Beaches

"

He’s only 17 but his friends say that it’s cool

They meet up in an empty field on the way home from school

Someone brought a 12 pack and they slam em back with ease

He knows he shouldn’t drive but he takes out his keys.

There’s a message in that bottle and he’s too young to know

The way it alters everything, make your senses slow

Someone could get killed, another’s world torn into

He doesn’t understand what his choice can do.

He’s working late again, but he’s really out with friends

Throwing back some drinks he doesn’t know when to end

The pain of his life, the reality of his demise

Is the reason he stays drunk, cause he cannot face the lies.

There’s a message in a bottle of whisky on his bar

Hope is all but gone and he doesn’t know where you are

All that mattered in his life now has disappeared

So drink away the pain, the message is so clear.

She’s sitting by the door, watching for the lights

Waiting for her daddy to come back home tonight.

But she will fall asleep listening for his voice

All because he just can’t cope, and he has made his choice.

Cause there’s a message in a bottle that will numb all his pain

Tonight he will feel nothing and tomorrow start again

All that will be lost and all that could be gained

Are seen through the bottom of a bottle, what a shame.

Oh My Yes.........a message in a bottle! You stepped up to the plate to meet this challenge with a message that I hope many will read, especially teenagers.
Far too many of our children are lost to reckless behavior induced by the effects of alcohol.
And, there is just so much more in this write!
Words we all need to hear!
Well done!

Well i must say you took the challenge and not only wrote something spectacular but with a message teens need to hear... underage drinking is a big cause of alcoholism and death... I know a few times that I came out lucky to be alive... powerful write.

Hopefully the message is "Not to drink and drive." My son was killed in a tragic car accident caused by a drunk driver recently and this poem reaches out and touches my heart. Thank you for sharing. Debileah
