YOUA Poem by poetforlifeA poem written to honor the lady who sacrificed everything to raise me, my Granny. You left us all too soon, too soon for me to stand I prayed that God would let you live, but that was not His plan. You were my rock through all my life, losing you, I couldn't breathe I cried out from my deepest part" I need you here with me"
You took me in when I was young and taught me right from wrong You raised me to be proud and free;never weak but strong. You told me "You are SOMEBODY, so act like it, my child" You were my closest friend, my love for you grew wild.
You took me to the church each and every week taught me from the Bible, others how to treat You showed me how to cook and taught me how to clean To be kind and gentle and on each other lean.
You showed me what a family was when I had none of my own You took me in and gave me love, your house was my home. You gave me the foundation that holds me strong today You taught me how to find the answers every time I pray.
The second you took your very last breath, something in me died To know you were here, somewhere praying for me helped so much in my life. Now there is an emptiness that nothing seems to fill I go on through my daily life surviving on sheer will.
I want you to be proud of the woman I've become I wanna be the kind of mom you were and raise my little ones. I wanna show them what you taught me so that you live on through them I hope I do the job you did and honor you once again.
There will never be another that can fill your old worn shoes But I know that you have taught your family how to choose The choices that are right for us and knowing when they're wrong Thank you for the strength I have, you still make me so strong.
Rest in peace, my Granny, in the gentle arms of God I think of you each moment and though it breaks my heart I know that Heaven's richer for having your angel wings Can't wait to be there with you and hear that choir sing.
We'll sit hand in hand just like we used to do My Granny and my friend, no one else, just me and you. Until then, I love you with all my heart and soul I'll keep on living to make you proud till it's my time to go.
