A Decade Has PassedA Poem by Sandra K
We met in the fifth grade,
The memory of our first met,
Still remains in my mind.
Honestly, I’m still embarrassed
That I did such a crazy thing!
The positive side, that is how
We met.
Through elementary school,
Kids Club, and the summer before
Middle school, we planted a seed
Of friendship.
Middles school, Success 2000,
Phone calls and note
Passing in between classes,
We nurtured our flower.
After those two years,
Memories; Disneyland,
And a Hispanic culture,
I left for a new life,
In a new state.
Many miles apart,
Snail mail, emails,
Text message, summer
Visits and myspace
We kept our flower growing
We healed it,
When it was sick.
The life trials of
Becoming adults,
And graduating high school,
We experienced together.
You lent an ear
When I needed one,
You gave a voice
When I needed one,
You put your arms
Around me when I need a hug.
Thank you!
A decade has flown,
Before our eyes Wow!
Our flower is still alive,
Standing strong and tall.
Yours may be lavender,
And mine maybe rainbow,
But it shows our personalities.
In the next decade,
Our flower will be
Much taller and stronger.
I look into the future,
You becoming God Mother
Of my children, my maid of honor,
Someone I already consider my sister,
And my best friend!
