I Gave It to You

I Gave It to You

A Poem by Sandra K

You asked me to see you,
So I spent time with you.

You asked me to hold your hand,
So I held it.

You asked me to hug you,
So I gave you a hug.

You asked me to kiss you,
So we made out.

You asked me to make love to you,
So I surrendered myself.

You asked me to give you my all,
So I gave you my possessions.

I asked you to call me,
The phone never rang,

I asked you to be there,
You never showed.

I asked you to pick me up,
I had to call a taxi.

I asked you to be honest,
You feed me lies.

Used.
Abused.
Worthless.
Broken

I gave you my world, and you returned the pieces.

Managed to build up beauty and hope then break it down to insecurities and despair within 25 lines, simple and impressive. Actually one of my favourite pieces with a steady increase of intensity and a climactic last sentence that clinched it for me, very powerful.

Very beautifully written piece of your heart. With every word I could feel the hurt.....sad but teasingly done to perfection. You designed this poem simply but yet it is very sophicated in its delivery. I enjoy your style.

What sadness .. but beautifully written .,...

Chilling, almost a clinical review of broken promises and dissolved dreams.

I guess such events are rare, and for that we must be grateful.

Very good work.

Wow, powerful words and oh so true, it touched a cord and brought tears to me eyes, how many times we give our all to someone, only to have our heart discarded like some used toy. I love the style of this poem to a smooth read that told the story complete and the last line

I gave you my world, and you returned the pieces.

says it all.

This was beautiful. Half way through the poem, my eyes teared up! A piece that many can relate to...

This was a great piece that shows one sided love, you sacrificed everything and got nothing but heart ache in return.

A very sad truth for many people. The simplicity of it made it even more heartbreaking, in my opinion.

But what do I know? Absolutely nothing. HUH. Good god, ya'll. Say it again.

Simple and yet so profound. The last line so aptly summarizes the pain so many face in this world in broken relationships. So well done, starting with your devotion and commitment and finishing with the broken trust.

wow that was a really good poem. I really liked the very last line "I gave you my world, and you returned the pieces." I can personally relate to that and i think that it was a very powerful line that means alot.
