Life and Death's Forbidden LoveA Poem by Sandra CaskeyFirst part of a mini-series. Part two: She Saw Only Death. Part Three: Death Has Life's Gift
There was a story that was unheard of,
One where words can’t describe the spoken love. It is the story of life and death And how they both took each other’s breath" The beginning is that of first creation, Where life was formed from galaxies, incarnation. Beautiful and graceful it held the manifestation Of flickering stars and a large constellation. Where there is life, there is death. From darkest part of life in recreation, Wrapped in a cloak of damnation, Designed as the caretaker of souls, Death is the one at the end who controls. In the inauguration, hearts were stolen As their eyes foresaw a future together. Their minds were left open When they thought of a world with each other. But their love was cast as forbidden, For opposite souls could not attract; Placed in separate sectors, hidden and stricken, Never to have contact. Written inside their contracts Were the words of a punishable beware. Into their worlds of lost tracks, They were forced down in chains of despair. Miserable for the entireties to come, Life and Death became so hateful, Tormenting their subjects has they grew more numb Until the day Life became so shameful. As Life was drowned by sorrow Did Life realize in plain sight a plan That was a subject’s long tomorrow And then so it began. For decades, nearly a century, Life had formatted their strategy Hidden from a future of penalty Had given a gift in secrecy. Upon it was a message written in love Reading, “I thought of everything, even a dove. But until I saw the love I had put into one creation, I knew, in my core, we were out of this damnation. “Please take this gift I give to you And care for it forevermore. Together and with more gifts, we’ll pull through This hellish arrangement. Forever yours.” Without acknowledgement from Life, Death was overwhelmed by their admiration. Gifts crafted into perfection without strife Will forever be cherished in pure adoration. With a gift sent back, Death wrote a letter: “For the centuries of our isolation, My love has only become stronger and better Through hard work and determination. We shall be together once again Without a distance to bring us pain. I love you and forever on; I’ll see you again when dusk breaks dawn.” © 2015 Sandra CaskeyAuthor's Note
