The Missed Train

The Missed Train

A Poem by Sandra Rose Waybill
"

A poem I wrote within the past 3 months, set to be in my third poetry book later this year or early next.

"

Sitting on the seat of public transport
We acted not as we ought
I messed about at every station
Testing time as we traveled the nation
He just sat there…

Penultimate halt I rushed round the stair
Looking for a cave that wasn't there
Re-reaching the train as it drew out
'Sorry, 15 minute wait' - the guards new shout
Oh well, no care...

I was never happy in the train or the town
To all moving-machines, I gave my frown
Best use our own speed and walk
Learn as we wander, time to talk
But which pair?

I ripped away the backdrop bearing this scene
Can't handle the lies, if you know what I mean
Back to the road and the broken down car
I will only put foot to this journey, however far
Will he share?

I bend over one man and to his hand I take hold
Yet I reach to another my eyes far from cold
Two hands grab tight to two men
Same story as every life passes, again and again
I set my stare...

One man is injured, lies sick on the road
The other is walking, then floating his load
I'm tied to them both, and holding on strong
I will be ripped into two mes before too long
Time for the tear...
