Down The Drain

Down The Drain

A Poem by San1601
"

Ending of a relationship

"

Down The Drain

Steam begins to rise

From the grey murky depths

Of water hot as the fires of hell

Rapidly descending from my tap

Burning away the grayness of my disappointment

In dinner, in breakfast, in life right now

But as sudsy soap soaks away

The slimy reminder of yesterday

I scrape and scrub and scrounge this glass

That reflective of my somber state

Dark and dreary, sullen, sad

As I’ve decided not to fight

But instead, I let it all go

Flowing away into the unknown abyss

Detached and unapologetic

Finally free of you

I love the alliteration in this poem: "sudsy soap soaks away" is fun to say. That said, I also love the expression of freedom that comes with acknowledging the grime and then letting it go. It's an effort that you make on your own and is indicative of inward growth and development. I really enjoyed this; great job.
