Muse

Muse

A Poem by Samuel E. Haven

We lie apart

Though so close together.

Two bitter hearts

Like stormy weather.

--

Fleeting whispers amid the darkness

Like softly blowing winds.

Tepid shallow words like little breaths.

As the night slowly ends.

--

I sit alone, midst an ocean of bed-sheets

Wishing secretly that you would stay.

Though I know at least

Perhaps only for a day,

That I had my muse,

Though it went away.

Into starless night.

The shadows fade,

Into the light.

--

Now I must, begin at lust

Though love was always there.

I write, amid brilliant particles of dust

Dancing along a ray of light across the air.

The once blank page.

Now full of the night we shared

My muse will never die, nor will it ever age.
