For You

For You

A Poem by Samuel E. Haven

We lay under the stars,

and think what our lives would be

if among the multitude two hearts

would pass within infinity.

And as they pass

their eyes will meet

like a flash

a rush of heat.

What would come to be

if our lives went on the way

they once had been,

and I never saw you again.

Among infinity.

We sit here side by side

on the beach

our toes tickled by the tide,

an ocean so fathomless, darkness out of reach.

We wonder what would happen if

all the world were swirling in that deep,

and two starfish float along the sea.

And by some chance

they catch a wave

caught together in a dance.

we wonder if forever they

will remember

the day they swam and danced

Among infinity.

So endless this crazy world may seem,

that what may be...

… coincidence …

could possibly

in that moment be meant

by something greater,

like stars and fish

in endless depths.

That in that moment,

that passes by

will define our lives

… among infinity.
