Father Tree

Father Tree

A Poem by Ua

Rind thickened so dense not even God could spoil the lavender fruit that lies beneath.
Covered with burr to get lost in a coyotes moonlit dream.
Carved the inside out a hallowed shell, buoyant down the river.
I will make this a hard man.
I can only hope the boy is stronger.

The pleasure was mine as well. Thank you for accepting me and the lovely comment.

This sparely worded offering conjures up Native American images. The speaker is apparently contemplating an old tree that he plans to make into a canoe. There are many images in the first three lines and I don't know if we are supposed to see them as symbols of something more profound or not. The last two lines seem to be the speaker wondering if he is up to the task. All we can tell is that he is definitely game and appreciative of the material with which he is to work. A very good poem that needs more readings.
