It Could Have Been Me

It Could Have Been Me

A Poem by Sammilynn

It could have been me,
in the fifth grade,
when I was hit with overwhelming sadness.
It could have been me,
in the eighth grade,
when I was bullied relentlessly.
It could have been me,
in the eleventh grade,
when my best friend took his life.
It could have been me,
in my senior year of college,
when I was isolated from the world.

It could have been me,
but I chose to live,
even when the world turned its back on me.
It could have been me,
but I chose to grow,
even on the darkest of days.
It could have been me,
but I chose to prosper,
even when I didn't think I could.
It could have been me,
but I chose to move forward,
even when those I loved pushed me back.

It could have been me.

Anyone who's endured all you have and have the guts, skill, and wherewithal to compose such a heart-stealing poetic composition as you have here and share it on a worldwide site has earned my utmost admiration and respect.
On one hand I love this piece for its fine poetic excellence in imagery, emotional timbre, and its depth in thought and feeling, and on the other, the poignancy and sadness gripped and overwhelmed me … you've the fine heart and soul of a poetess.
I have no constructive critique to offer, but I would love to offer my welcome to you at the Café, and to tell you I think with poetry like this, you will have no trouble attracting fans and followers, or making friends … I'd like to be your first.

I'm just so very glad it wasn't You … hugs! ⁓ Richard🖌

A triumph in resilience. A strong write here, of someone who has endured a great deal in his battle with life. Well composed.

It is good that the speaker is aware of how bad things could have been. Gratitude is its own reward. So is the refusal to give up.
