Chapter 4:

Feet pounding against the ground, arms pumping as I run forward apposing looking back. Just keep looking forward. Stay focused. I can feel my heart pounding sweating slowly dripping down my back. I can hear them behind I need to do something and quick. I take a sharp turn to the right almost slipping as I round the corner. As I straighten up I see a wall ahead and jump up both hands gripping the top and fall down as its wet from the pouring rain. I jump again and start to pull myself up and groan as I can feel the strain on my muscles. I manage to pull myself over and let go dropping to the ground and start to run again.
I come out back on to the main road and cross the street taking the third left to an abandoned building. It will make it easier for me to lose them it's dark and this place is huge. I go round to the back where there is a broken window and climb through and wince as I feel a sear of pain as my leg catches on some broken shards of glass left from the window. I pull the rest of my leg through the window and lift up my already torn and dirty trousers to take a look. It is not deep, that's good. I stop leaning against the wall, hands on the top of my legs bent forwards allowing myself to try and catch my breath. My head whips up. I hear voices and feet coming this way. There's two of them. I drop right down to the floor trying to get my breathing under control and staying absolutely still. My eyes are squeezed shut and all I can hear is my breathing it sounds like it is echoing. That's when I hear the footsteps getting closer and closer becoming really slow. The footsteps stop right outside the window. I wait while trying to think of my options. Do I stay put or may a run for it? But then the footsteps start to walk past the window getting further and further away. I stay still and decide to wait to make sure they aren't coming back or waiting for me to come out.
I wait for what feels like an hour before finally standing up. I climb out the window and look right and left there is no-one there and no sounds of anyone else around. I turn right and take off in a jog to the side of the building. I round the corner and that's when I see her. On the ground arms out to the side and covered in blood. I feel the breath go out of my like I have been punched in the stomach. I go over to her and cradle her in my arms. I stroke the hair from her face.
"Hey baby come on stay with me please" I beg. Her eyes flutter once or twice before opening looking up into mine.
She reaches up touching my face wiping away tears I didn't know where falling.
"Shh...Shh...Shh... It's okay, you're going to be okay" comes her voice so quiet it's hard to hear. I shake my head not able to speak bringing her closer to my chest. I know I can't save her there is too much blood.
"I love you Casey. Casey Stewart." She says breathlessly before going limp and closing here eyes. I can see the life leaving her and I know she is gone. I scream and cry harder rocking backwards and forwards as I cling to her cold body sitting in a pool of blood.
My eyes begin to flutter as I wake up in a cold sweat. I turn my head to look at the time. It's four in the morning. I swing my legs out of bed and run my hand across my face getting my bearings. It has been 5 years since that day yet it still feels like yesterday. I can't let it happen again. I can't. I wouldn't survive that a second time. I need to find her!
