Poem #3

Poem #3

A Poem by Samith Pich
"

Another very very old poem lol

"

I’m almost afraid to say it

but things are looking better

from where I stand.

I’m almost afraid to say anything,

out loud when my hand reaches

 for your hand.

why is that so?

our conversations are often confusing,

but funny, seriousness comes later

with you. but no matter how deep

our conversations or our letters get

they seldom match the depths of our thoughts.

why is that so?

today when I was walking down the street

to the local deli, I saw you. our eyes met

& locked and a hundred different emotions

coursed through my veins.

why was that so?

The rhetoric of your "why was that so?" refrain really emphasises how hopeless we all are to translate thoughts into the verbal; we may feel intellectual or profound inside our heads, but rarely can we articulate it. The same goes for expressing love, it generally gets screwed up at some stage going from brain to mouth. Some things we don't have answers to, we just have to accept and keep trying.
This piece seemed unlike your newer work; it was more about communicating the message directly [ironi, really, considering your subject lol] and less about imagery and technique. Although I love your gift with language, i imagine it's nice for you to take a break now and then and get down with the helplessly human side of yourself.

Great work. Thanks for sharing it.

Captivating write my friend - I think this is one of those poems that puts you into your own memories of feeling this way with someone at some point in time. I think you captured how things are perfectly, with the ever resounding question of "why is that so?" that only highlights that same anxiety that we sometimes get when exploring our feelings and thoughts and trust of another.

Great stuff!

There are so many emotions that can only be said through silence. Have you read the poem "Silence" by Edgar Lee Masters. . .

I read your words and was transported back into other times of my life. There have been so many silences. It's good to visit yesterdays sometimes.
