HomeA Poem by Samantha YoungI miss waking up, The sound of the waves crashing on the rocks, The salty ocean air surrounding me as I sat up, The noise of the vultures fighting over dead fish. I miss sneaking out, Grabbing my board at dawn, Running down to the shore, Taking a few runs on the waves, Walking back to the house, Thinking no one saw me, Hearing my dad walk up behind me. I miss the morning routine, Fighting for the bathroom, Complaining about the lack of shampoo, Arguing over the last piece of bacon, Pushing for the front seat of the car, Screaming at the change of the radio station, Relaxing from the goodbye kiss by daddy. I miss my friends, Brian, With his obsession with anime, computers and rock music. Jyn, With her soft spoken voice, sweet and loving character. Jeremy, With his overprotective, don’t touch Sammy, attitude. I miss the nights, Where Brian and I surfed for hours, Losing track of time and place. Where we ate whatever daddy cooked, Even though it tasted horrible. Where we stayed up past our curfews, And endured the punishment the next day. I miss my old life, Everything seemed easy back then. But now, I’m away from it all. And even though I miss a lot of things, The one thing I miss the most . . . Is my dad© 2010 Samantha YoungReviews
