Times Change

Times Change

A Poem by Samantha Young

“Times Change”

“Times change”.

Those were the last words he said

The words replayed over in my head,

Like a broken record, stuck . . . dead.

Times change,

As does the rain drops,

When they are replaced with my tears.

Bang!

As they hit the rooftops,

Of my lonely heart left bare.

Times change,

This time not like before,

Your very presence has remained.

But . . .

When I needed YOU the most . . . you ignored.

Times change.

My heart is wounded open,

My life is left, damaged and broken.

The joy angel inside remains hidden

As she sleeps, not wanting to be shaken.

Times change,

Indeed they do.

I will be strong and rise.

Unlike you!

You will fall into my demise.

You’ll remain defenseless,

Full of regret and loss.

You no longer have a hold,

The rusty chains have snapped and grown cold.

But hey, don’t times change?

After the hurt of a break-up, especially when they come crawling back, this feeling that you have portrayed is ecstacy. When, in the end, you realize that you have lost nothing, but they have lost you and that is something that no one can replace!
