If You Whisper Too LoudA Poem by Samantha DavrosShe quietly drifted around the room on her tippy-toes, her arms in the air like wild flowers. The little girl hummed a tune that no one knew, but her. Her eyes were closed, long lashes fluttering like a silly breeze, or a frantic heartbeat. Whisper. . . She squinted her eyes tight. A knock sounded at the door. Still, she calmly breathed through her button-nose nostrils. Darling. . . Her eyes flashed open, they were an ice blue, silver swirl. The girl, she seemed to float as she moved closer to the knocking. Although she practically swam in the sun’s rays everyday, her hands were pale, thin, slender. Her fingertips stopped inches from the doorknob, curling into a tiny fist. The door flung outwards, and with a terrifying crack it split in two, crashing to the floor. © 2017 Samantha DavrosAuthor's Note
