Opening Night

Opening Night

A Poem by Samantha

A slight murmor from the audience drifts backstage

I nervously pace back and forth like an animal in its cage

Running through each line in my head

Picturing each scene again and again

Before long the time has come

The opening music starts

The show has begun!

I take my place behind the curtain

I know my cue, but still feel uncertain

The house lights dim, the spotlight comes on

I make one last wish that nothing goes wrong

I take a deep breath as the curtains slide apart

Stepping center stage, joy fills my heart

I scan the audience, taking in the sight

After hours of rehearsal it was finally opening night

Very discriptive write. You build the tension up well here "aniaml in it's cage" that's cool. All the way to "curtains slide apart/ Steping to center state, joy fills my heart"-- very visual and climactic. Yes, rehearsals or practise, practise, practise is what it's all about-- you show that truthism well here.

I can sense the emotion in this - well done. I do prefer what I call snapshot poetry - which evokes a sense, shows a scene, or plays an emotion - as opposed to poems that travel somewhere.
