In the Shadow of a Cloud

In the Shadow of a Cloud

A Poem by Sam Stanhope

A lone Dove flew in failing sun
In skies of day, tear-shroud
Spiralling through birds last light shone shafts
In the wakening of a cloud

A Whale school swam in waters cold
In waters stained, blood-shroud
Floating through fish's aquatic mould
In the beckoning of a cloud

A Lion pack prowled through wilting grass
On planes scorched, burnt, heat-shroud
Dying amongst the falling ash
In the threatening of a cloud

God cried his last in chaos midst
This Earth, this world, death-shroud
Church bells echoed through Devil’s mist
In the presence of a cloud

And with the dawn of endless dusk
Humanity is shroud
One by one we fall to dust
In the veiling of a cloud

Death strolled along with open arms
On land that he had shroud
Death blew his blow, sounded Hell's alarm
In the shadow of a cloud

I like the theme and the way you chose to describe each cloud with each new stanza. The ending stanza capped it all off nicely. Good job.
