THE CHILD SLAVE WARS BEDTIME STORY

I

2055

IN THE FIRST DARK DAYZ

OF WORLD WAR IV,

A 5-YEAR-OLD GIRL FROM THE ‘HOOD

WAS SENT BY HER PARENTS,

LIKE MILLIONS OF OTHER WAR-TIME CHILDREN,

TO THE SHELTER OF A GREAT WALLED CITY.

THERE,

THE LITTLE HOMIES WOULD BE GUARDED

BY A MIGHTY SUPER-COMPUTER.

UNDER THE MACHINE’S ALL-WATCHING EYE,

THE CHILDRENS’ SAFETY WOULD BE ASSURED,

UNTIL THEIR MOMS N’ POPS RETURNED HOME

FROM THE WAR.

BUT, MY HOMEBOYS,

A TERRIBLE-A*S THING HAPPENED.

THE COMPUTER BECAME POSSESSED

BY ITS OWN POWER.

IT CAST AN EVIL SPELL,

TURNING THE SEVEN WALLED CITIES THE KIDS’ PARENTS HAD BUILT

INTO DEATH CAMPS.

AND THE POOR BOYZ N’ GIRLZ

THE COMPUTER HAD BEEN ENTRUSTED TO GUARD,

INSTEAD BECAME ITS SLAVES.

I love this. The music made it that much better [Metallica kicks a*s]. I wanna see this published too. This sucked me in and got me thinking. It reminded me of some of the poetry of Andrew Schwab (LOOK HIM UP!) Generally, I don't like anything sci-fi or really anything that's not realistic fiction or something, so something can be said for one who writes something like this and doesn't make me wanna close the book, if you will. Very lovely, and it tells a sad story. I like the way you started on a dark note and ended on a dark note. It's like an oreo. haha. Cuz the dark stuff is on the outside and the creamy goodness is in the middle. But oreos are delicious, and this poem is not. Great poetry, but not a tasty snack. I enjoyed reading. Very nice... That's all I can think of to say at the moment...

I love how this manages to make slang sophisticated and poetic. Please, please keep writing this- I haven't seen anything this interesting in a while.

I like the two first sections done in verse. Which, by the way, are totally excellent. Already you've concretely established voice, tone, a sense of place and being. The musical accompaniment is perfect! But then I wouldn't expect any less from you - bravo!!!!
