Samsara

Samsara

A Story by Sam Davidson

Humanity was born in the wilderness

And given unto mankind from natality

Was the dream-task

And in the dream,

Those who came to know the wilderness

Unto them came God

Who gave them the life-task

And they built temples

And later they built cities

But many tribal cities fell

Into unthinking, unloving, Ungodly ways

And so were made worse

Worse, even than those who lived in the wilderness

And had yet to know it

And were sent back into the wilderness

Until they may come to know it

And be at peace with themselves

And once more start the life-task

Of those who do not fall

From the life-task

There are those who come at once

To know and be at peace with life

And they are given the death-task

But even fewer will gain the peace of death

For many generations

And those who fall must return to the wilderness

'Til they can be at peace with it

Thus is the nature of Samsara

Very interesting verse, it almost sounds biblical: and is just as cryptic. It's kind of a step by step guide to enlightenment, how we fall in and out God's favor through our frivolous misdeeds, and the cycle of ruin and human 'utopia'. Incidentally utopia means no place in greek, interesting how we still use that word to describe our ideal collections of humanity. How we see it as a goal when the wilderness is where we begin and begin again our enlightenment, for only when we are at peace with this shabiness, this death that befalls all of us; will we truely move on and have rest. Interesting take, thanks for writing something worth reading, and I hope I was of assistance.
