I stood in the shining ruins of the city I heard the weeping voices of the Ancestral Gods The rice-fields were towers of silence And the crownéd conquerors laughed With their faces downturned Years of ashes passed by But I didn’t think of forests Nor of the encroaching temples of concrete Or of the Princesses sold into slavery And strange medical advances The call of my otherworldly Lord Came to me through the scorched glade Where the river brought stories And I considered the ending of all things As if it were already here © 2009 Sam Davidson |
