Sepukku

Sepukku

A Poem by Sam Davidson
"

This can be seen as a companion piece for the rather horrifically-named "A Graveyard for the West"

"

I stood in the shining ruins of the city

I heard the weeping voices of the Ancestral Gods

The rice-fields were towers of silence

And the crownéd conquerors laughed

            With their faces downturned

Years of ashes passed by

But I didn’t think of forests

Nor of the encroaching temples of concrete

Or of the Princesses sold into slavery

            And strange medical advances

The call of my otherworldly Lord

Came to me through the scorched glade

Where the river brought stories

And I considered the ending of all things

As if it were already here
